As trucks, motorcycles, 4-wheelers and a bevy of rabid fans lined up at the Owen Country Fair Grounds in the small town of Owenton, KY at last week’s Froggy 104.9FM Field Party, headlining act Josh Thompson pulled up to the stage riding in a blue Chevy pick-up truck. After playing a two-hour set of songs from his debut album Way Out Here, fans hollered for more and Josh returned to the stage to perform a three song encore.
But for Josh Thompson, the evening was far from over. When he finally made his way offstage, he was invited by a fairground worker to ride one of the 4-wheelers that was on site – and offered him a pair of night vision goggles! Never one to shy away from a new outdoor activity, Josh capped off the night by driving a 4-wheeler through the back country hills of the Fairgrounds.
So it’s fitting that “Way Out Here,” Josh’s Top 25 and climbing single about a backwoods, simpler way of life, is driving its way up the country chart and resonating with listeners across the nation. Kerry Wolfe, Clear Channel Milwaukee-WMIL Director of Programming describes “Way Out Here,” as “a song that relates and drives emotion,” while Dial Global Sr. Director of Programming John Paul adds, “we all know how important the country core audience is. 'Way Out Here' speaks to them.”
